I have taken many photos of myself and have seen photos of myself and hated the way that I looked in the those photos. We have all done this at one time or another. We have even asked / begged for the photo to be deleted, but why is that?
Duncan Davidson does a short TED talk on the subject, Duncan explains that the issue is not with the photo but with instead with our perception of our own image. Traditionally we see ourselves in a mirror and that is how we remember ourselves mirrored. When we are confronted with an image of ourselves that is not mirrored, we perceive the image as “wrong”.
